We are the West Coast's first IoT-specific hackathon.

Nowadays Internet of Things (IoT) has become more and more popular with the rise of smart-home devices and Autonomous vehicles, and there are so many more possibilities awaiting. If you are interested in learning and exploring IoT, here is a great event to get your hands on.

As the first of its kind on the west coast, Hack IoT is a 24-hour hackathon focusing primarily on IoT and the integration of IoT with other technologies.

We provide our hackers with tools and equipment free of charge, as well as great workshops. Not only will these hackers code, but also they will create tangible products from scratch in 24 hours.

FAQ

General

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Hack IoT is primarily looking for USC undergraduate and graduate students. However, all hackers are encouraged to apply as exceptions made on an application basis.

I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IOT!

You are definitely not alone! During the hackathon, there will be workshops that will be accessible for everyone. There will also be mentors and other experts ready to assist those who are having trouble bringing their hacks to life.

Accommodations

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Hack IoT costs absolutely nothing to participate in. There is no reason not to come out, learn something new, and have fun! (There will however be a required deposit)

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

A valid ID is required for admission, so don't forget to bring it! If you don't live around USC, we recommend bringing necessary toiletries and a sleeping bag.

WILL FOOD BE PROVIDED?

Yes! Meals will be provided for all hackers and participants. Please notify us of allergies or food preferences within your application and we'll do our best to accommodate.

HOW ABOUT TRAVEL COSTS?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to cover transportation costs for this year's event. If you plan on bringing a vehicle, we will include a map of USC's parking lots.

Applications

HOW DO I RSVP?

Acceptance letters and RSVP forms have been sent out. If you did not get one or have any questions email us at ieee@usc.edu

REMINDER: A $10 deposit is required but will be refunded at the event.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Applications are not yet open, but be on the lookout for any updates!

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A TEAM?

You are free to hack alone, but that's no fun! We encourage everyone to be on teams of maximum 4 hackers. Not only will you have more fun, but more equipment will be available for your use. That being said, we do hold a team formation session before hacking begins so that hackers can be successful in finding the right teammates.

Miscellaneous

WHAT TOOLS AND HARDWARE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR MY TEAM?

If you would like to see a specific part or device at the hackathon, you can specify so on your application and we'll do our best to accommodate! click here to find the full list.

HOW DO I CONTACT HACK IOT?
